En los países de América latina, incluyendo el nuestro, las personas llevan el apellido de su padre antes que el de la madre, y por lo mismo cuando uno se casa el apellido de la madre se pierde.
Esto se debe a que, como la madre es la que concibe, el tener el apellido es una forma de comprobar la paternidad. Además de que el padre es quien aporta más genes al hijo, y quizás la sociedad machista ha influido en esta situación.
